dry needles in persons skinAt Excel Chiropractic, we are committed to providing you with the comprehensive approach to care that you need to feel, function, and perform your best. Our experienced chiropractor will incorporate a range of soft-tissue modalities along with customized chiropractic adjustments to speed up your healing and recovery process.

One of the most effective therapies we offer is dry needling. And despite the scary-sounding name, our patients love it!

What Is It?

Dry needling is similar to acupuncture because it uses the same type of very fine needles to help the body heal. Where it differs from acupuncture is in the approach. Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese method in which needles are placed at various body points to improve the flow of chi or energy. Dry needling is a modern, evidence-based approach that uses needles to help muscles release tension, tightness, and spasms.

We incorporate this therapy into our customized care plans for many of our patients. It can be used for a variety of soft tissue conditions, such as:

  • Muscle tightness
  • Trigger points
  • Sprains

  • Strains
  • Overuse conditions
  • Chronic pain

The needles we use are nothing like needles used to draw blood or deliver injections—they’re very fine, about the diameter of a human hair. Dr. Adams will place the needles in the appropriate area based on your pain or other symptoms. Most patients feel nothing when the needles are placed, although a slight prick can sometimes occur. The needles stimulate the muscles to contract and then release, letting go of tension that causes pain.

Many of our patients experience relief immediately, while full healing may require a series of sessions over 2-3 weeks.

As an adjunct to your chiropractic care, this soft tissue work helps improve joint mobility so we can restore optimal biomechanics and movement.
